Legacy Course Retirement

We passed a lot in the last two years, covid changed our life as trainer, most of our classes went remote and many professionals lost their job. Now it is time to look forward to a new year, so let’s be ready to say welcome to new role-based courses and say goodbye to the legacy course.

Retirement of legacy courses

More than two years passed from the time Microsoft switched from legacy courses to role-based courses. This year started with the retirement of the MCSE certification in January, one of the most recognized program. Now the natural process is going on with the retirement of the other legacy courses.

The decision was reached after a careful analysis across the teams, and all feedback were considered before to reach this decision.

When this will happen

The retirement of legacy course was announced in February 2021 and already extended in past, now we are really coming to the end, Microsoft is officially retiring all legacy courses on Dec 30, 2021.

You will find below some of the common questions and the list of the courses that will be retired.

Skillpipe license keys

If you have to teach legacy courses, it is possible to order license keys from the courseware marketplace before the retirement date. You will have until 90 days to distribute and activate the license keys.

MTM and legacy courses

The legacy courses will be marked as “inactive” once they are retired. If you have history about these courses, it will remain. From December 31, 2021 if you teach legacy courses they will not be counted as valid classes toward renewing your MCT certification.
