Microsoft and Pearson Vue give 30 minutes extra time during the exam for non-native English speakers
Most of material we use to study is in English. Most of people are non-native English speakers. This is still okay when you need a formal or informal conversation in a non-stressful situation, or when you need to search for some how-to.
But what about taking exams in English? This is a completely different situation. If you are non-native English speaker you need extra time to read, understand and correctly answer the question. It is a stressful situation with a limited amount of time.
Microsoft and Pearson Vue perfectly know this and give you the possibility to require extra 30 minutes!
Microsoft Certification exams are available in several languages. However, candidates who must take the exam in English rather than in their native language can request an accommodation for additional time.
Process to request extra time for Microsoft Exam with Pearson Vue
If the exam is not available in your native language and you need to take it in a different language, you may request additional time to read and answer the questions. If you take the exam with Pearson Vue, you can use the English as a Second Language (ESL) form.
To request extra time you should compile the form with your data, attach a letter that certifies ESL, and send everything back to AccommodationsPearsonVUE@pearson.com .
IMPORTANT: The letter (on official letterhead) from an instructor or employer that verifies English is your second language, is required, not optional.
If you attended a class with a Microsoft Certified Trainer, and you want to take the exam, you can ask the Trainer to certify you are non-native English speaker.
Remember that all requests must first be approved by Pearson VUE. Candidates must wait for confirmation of the approval before scheduling an examination.
In case you schedule your exam before the Pearson Vue approval, you will not have any extra time!
If the exam is available in your native language, you may take the exam in a different language; however, you will not be given extra exam time to do so.
Approval for extra time is provided on a case-by-case basis and needs to be requested in advance of the exam.

I have a question, the MTA exame doesn’t Portuguese from Portugal, why not give the time extra to Portuguese native as soon as they register to do the exam ? I now that’s only till June but I have students yet to do it.
Hi Dora,
extra time needs to be evaluated case by case. Unfortunately, the citizenship of a person does not certify ESL.
If you are MCT, you can write the letter to be attached to the ESL form for all of your students.
It is a fair option for non-native English speakers! Thanks
I didn’t know it was possible to have more time for non-native English speaker! From now on I will use this possibility! Thanks!
thank you for that sir, I am non-native and always thought I need more time to complete the exam.
Now it is a bit easier for me because I do understand better technical english, but I remember at the beginning I had to struggle to understand very well what was the real meaning of the question. Thanks for your post, I will share it with my colleagues!
I passed different Microsoft exams, last AZ-400, before AZ-900 and AZ-104. I did not know about extra time for Microsoft exams before reading your article and I will use it!
Thanks for sharing useful information on this website, and I also believe the design has great features.
